History

Our History

Faith Leaders United (WFLU) began in 1998 as The Ministerial Roundtable, created by the 1898 Centennial Foundation to unite clergy in the commemoration of the 1898 coup d’état in Wilmington, NC.

Since its founding, our group of ministers from the greater Wilmington area has remained steadfast in our commitment to resisting racism in our personal lives, within our congregations, and throughout the wider community.

Over time, The Ministerial Roundtable evolved into what is now known as Faith Leaders United. In 2024, we entered a new chapter, establishing bylaws, electing an executive committee, and applying for 501(c)3 nonprofit status.

While our commitment to fostering friendships across diverse faith traditions, seeking clarity on God’s vision for humanity, and engaging our congregations in the ongoing struggle against racism remains at our core, we now aim to expand our reach. We seek to not only set an example but also to be a visible presence of unity and love, actively working together to promote racial healing and make a positive impact in our community.
